A friend has a 97 with headlamp problems. Both headlamps go up, but when you turn them off they only go down partially. Both are equal. Sometimes they will go half way others times they will go 3/4 down. If you put the switch in the high beam position they will go up and down fine. The problem is only when the switch is in the low beam position.
He had the multifunction switch ( headlamp switch) replaced. This didn't change anything. Now they tell him the headlamp module needs to be replaced. He ordered the module. we installed the new module. This didn't help either. What else is left?
Think I remember reading a post some time ago about the gear being worn. Have you tried a search for problems with the headlight? Maybe specify the gear in the search line. Good luck. :chevy
If they make noise, there could be a gear problem.
The door control module monitors current draw to determine when the motors hit the stops, if the actuators are worn out, they could be drawing too much current causing the module to sense that they are shut when they are not.
It sounds like you might need to replace one or both.
If memory serves, the current monitoring is based on each individual motor feed because they never both operate exactly the same.
I have had problems in the past where they would not open because of this also.
If the motor works fine with the bright lights, it is not a motor problem. It is a resistance problem with the low beams(or the wires feeding them). Did he change the lamps to something other than stock? If he did or didn't, try changing the bulbs out or checking the connections to make sure there is no corrosion.
