I have a 1997 coupe and I'm always hearing a huming noise from under the trunk area. Today I noiticed it would pulse when the turn signals were on ???
Is this the fuel pump making noise, if so can it be updated to get rid of the sound ????
Sounds just like fuel pump noise. Early 97s had a recall for fuel tanks. The new tanks had the quieter pumps. There might have also been a fuel pump campaign. You might check if your car was eligible and not done.
Turning up the stereo always helped me until the change. :)
My 98 has some fuel pump hum, a friends 97 had it bad. As prior poster suggested, check with the dealer and see if a campaign could be done at their cost - or negotiate with them so you don't pay to much.
If that doesn't work, and you don't want to spring the $ for updated fuel pumps (or tanks) - consider some of the sound insulation topics that have put sound damping materials (duct insulation from home depot or true sound absorping material from speciality sites) over the floor (under seats), over the fuel tanks, into the hatch - including storage spaces. Might help make it less noticable sound wise, and not cost a lot of $$..
Thanks for the good ideas. I'm checking out the dealer monday and looking into the sound deading issue as well.
For now the radio is jacked up, a real cheep fix :D
haha...... you guys crack me up.. installing sound deadener!!! I hope you are kidding!!! It is your fuel pump! Go have it replaced! I think it was $4xx and some change when I had it replaced on my 97.....
