I'm thinking of buying a 4:10 rear end and having it installed on my 2001 6-spd. Then taking the 3:42 stock rear end from my 2001 and having it installed on my wife's 2000 A4 which currently has a 3:15. How much difference in performance can I expect with the 4.10s on my 2001 and how much gas efficiency will I lose on the highway? How much dufference in perfomance will I get on the 2000? I don't take either to the drag strip. I just like fast street starts!
Do both :yesnod: . You will not regret it. Might lose 2-3 MPG on the 6spd during a long trip but not much on normal city/hwy driving. I'm not sure about the auto.
If you do that, you and the wife will look like this ----->>> :D :D
You'll love the sotp improvement. Even though the 4.10 swap is a 20% bump in the M6, the gas milage reduction is not a linear match because you add 6th gear to your regular shifting habits since it becomes usable at legal speeds. The lower .50 6th gear lends it's frugality to your milage so it doesn't take the hit a shift to 4.10's without using 6th gear would.
