Default Tire sizing question...

Do you guys know what the largest tires will fit on the 1999 C5 Vert? It's got the stock wagon wheels. I'm planning not to use the runflats and get some "real" tires. The stock sizes are 275/40/18 (rear) and 245/45/17 (front). I'm not sure how wide the rim is and I just wanted to get some fatter rubber on the car. I'm not looking to have anything stick out to the extreme, but just seeing what my sizing options are. Thanks.

Find a set of used ZO6 wheels (1' wider than yours-front & rear) and put on a set of 265/40/17 front, 295/35/18 rear. Get good tires-see other threads for brands favored by the guys with cars and uses-street/road/drag-like yours.
If you have to buy new wheels, Chrome ZO6 reproductions are inexpensive and popular. Also if you buy wheels, get 18" fronts with 275/35/18 tires for a little bit better turn-in and the ability to put large brake rotors in front if you decide that you need those later.
The above mentioned sizes will be approximately the same diameters as your stock tires, so will not confuse your ABS and should not rub on anything or stick out of the wheel wells. :)

Unfortunately, I can't afford new wheels right now. I should be able to get them when the next set of tires wear out. I just got the car, ya know? Do you know what tires will fit the stock C5 rims? And do you know if the 2000 and up thin spokes are any larger than the 1999 and down wagon wheels?

stock C5 wheels are 17 X 8.5 FR and 18 X 9.5 R, both wagon wheel and thin spoke. The tire manufacturers all state what width wheel can be used with their tires sizes.

I run the Z06 tires on stock coupe rims (same as your vert) no problem,2years now.
Though the wheels changed in '00 the size and offset did not, fronts are 17x8.5", rears are 18x9.5 ", Z06 rears are 18x10.5".

The stock Z06 rear tires are295/35-18 which will lower your overall tire hieght approx 1/2", you notice it a little atfirst, not at allvery soon.

If you getting new tires, especially different size ones, I seriously recommend a 4 wheel alignment at the same time.

They stick out some, notmuch.

Just my$.02

Good luck!
