I know I've seen posts from guys who have installed their LG's on jackstands. I know I could wait until Spring and pay someone to put the car up on a lift, but I want to do this myself. What else have I got to do in New York State in the Winter to get my "Car Fix", right?!
My questions:
Can it be done on jackstands?
How high does the car need to be?
Is there a safe, secure place to position the jack stands (both for me and the car!)
Any other tips that anyone has learned from doing this job?
I installed an engine, clutch, headers, rear, tranny, all on jackstands. It complicates things slightly but its ok. If you need some help shoot me an IM.

Yes they can be installed on jackstands. I did it over Thanksgiving. Like you I was a little concerned at first, but it can be done. The passenger side goes in from the top, the driver side must go in from the bottom. I had the rear of my car on Rhino ramps, I put jackstands under the front crossmember. I had the the car 16" off the ground for most of the work. When actually sliding the driver header in place I put a floor jack under the front crossmember with a 2x6 to distribute the weight. I then had to jack the car up to the jack's highest position. So the crossmember was about 28" from the ground. I left it there only long enough to slide in the header and then set the car back down on jackstands. The total job took about 6 hours. The headers are awesome and well worth the time spent. If you have any more questions fell free to email me.
Good Luck!

Where did you position the jackstands under the car?
A buddy and I installed my LGM's on 2 sets of Rhino ramps. We installed both sides from the top. Removed the coil packs, and the alternator. When dropping the headers in we removed the valve covers for additional clearance. If you plan to use jack stands, place them on the cross member just in front of the oil pan.

:iagree:
and you can place the rear jackstands on the same spot on the rear cradle.
I also installed a set on my 01 a few weeks ago. I installed both from the bottom. I had to raise the car quite high though. I didn't measure it but I would guess at least 28", maybe higher. The jack stands were placed where the shipping holes are located ( I think that is what they are referred to). On the passenger side, I removed the starter and raised that side of the engine slightly to gain the clearance I needed.
Interesting - some doing the installs from the bottom, some from the top! Guess it's good to know there are options. I'll probably try to stay with LG's directions and put the driver's side in from below and the passenger side from the top. I'll see what develops when I get into it. Thanks again for all the responses! It's great information to have. Merry Christmas!

Thanks, Lou! On another subject - do you recommed doing anything to protect the wires from the heat? Should I look at upgrading the stock wires and using Koolsox or something similar?
A friend of mine is using stock plug wires with the LG headers and has had no issues after 5000 miles or more. The stock plug wires are pretty good. I had 8mm aftermarket wires with my FLP's and 2 burned up, put stock wires on and they are fine, i think due to the extra rubber and shielding they have around the plug.
