fuel gauge...........

fuel gauge...........
i go get in the vette this morning and the fuel gauge is pegged out on E and the check gauges light is on. i hit reset and the range doesn't register anything. put some gas in it thinking the wife ran it down to nothing and left it for me. briefly the range came back and then everything went back to the way it was.............on E lights..............i get back in after an hour in the gym and everything works fine. just being a pissy corvette or is something about to crap out on me?

You fuel gauge/senders are probably going the way of the dodo. Do a search and you will find that everother car is having the same problem or similar ones.

did a search didn't find anything. i thought i had read about this on here before. whats the fix.............new sender probably????????

Before you spend unnecessary money. GM has replaced more sending units than they would like to admit. I believe the problem is that they are replacing them with the same unit....not an upgraded unit, so you may encounter the same problem down the road. When the C5 went into production, GM knew it would be at least a 5 or 6 year run......sooo, they probably ordered enough sending units at a discounted price (the more you buy, the better the deal) to cover the production run, with some left over for the parts dept. Try a good fuel injection cleaner....Techron, or BG44 and always use a good high test gas. I know Amoco or BP have a low sulphur content. The sulphur content is also thought to be a culprit. Mine has acted up twice, remember.......this is just my opion.

thanks. i only use the bp/aamco 93. i will keep an eye on it if it does it once every blue moon i can live it with it, just when it dies for good.............gotta do something then.

Sounds like the sending units to me. Common problem with C5's - I had this happen to my '99 several times until they replaced both sending units.
