Default security problem

Sometimes when I go to start my car it wont start. but after about 3 minutes then it will. What do you all think, the key itself, ignition switch detecting theft, or something worse. This is driving me crazy! Any suggestions on what to fix. Thanks for your help in advance. Also I am new here and my name is Greg Bruner. And the car is 99 fixed roof coupe.

I have read on this Forum it could be the key. Try the other key. Others here could give you more detail. Welcome aboard.

there is a chip in the key.. if the resistor is bad... it could cause this problem. Next time it happens, try your back up set of keys.

Thats a small problem, when I bought the car it only came with one key. I need to buy another anyway. But wanted to figure out this problem first. I was not sure if I was to have to replace the ignition switch if it would take a new key or could be made to work with the existing key. Anyway didnt want two keys that would not fit new ignition switch if that turned out to be the problem. I am told by local people that there is a sensor in the switch that is detecting that the ignition is being pick or tampered with when I go to start the car. But the key chip is kinda worn looking. Maybe I should start there. Probally the cheapest guess. Unless someone has a better idea?
Thanks all, Greg

Make sure that your key is clean, in particular around the chip area.

Well I took the battery out of the key remote, now the car starts fine. So I guess the remote was the problem. Just thought I would let you all know.

Hey Greg welcome to the forum !
I have to say I've never heard of this solution for a car that sometimes won't start.
But as long as it worked that's all that matters !
Stranger things have happened ! :)
