I am not going to take anymore chances with my valve springs, after I broke my second one on my Cartek 2X heads last week. I talked with Dave at Cartek several times, he is sending me a new set of Manley springs this week. I am going to replace the whole set. Just wondering if anyone has any pointers. I have the valve spring compressor that I should need, I also have the fitting for putting in the spark plug hole to pump up the cylinder. If anyone has any pointers, it would be greatly appreciated before I get started.
Thanks

I would get a small pen magnet which makes it easier to remove and install the keepers. I would also cover any openings around the springs with a shop towel to keep from dropping a keeper in there. Better safe than sorry. Just take your time and you'll be fine. The whole job should take about 3 hours or so for a first timer.
I would also suggest that you heat cycle the springs before any high RPM runs. Just let it completely warm up and then let it cool down completely. Repeat this 3 or 4 times to be on the safe side.
Good Luck and it nice to see Cartek stepping in and supplying you replacement springs.

MT your car sounds a lot like mine :D I have B+B PRTs though, but most of the other stuff we have is similar. Wonder if it sounds that much alike in person... either way, lookin' good (and sounding!)

Apply grease to the valve as you install the keepers to hold them in place. Take a socket and smack each retainer with a hammer to shock the keepers free before you try to compress the spring. Also, if you're using the type of valve spring that has the claws and a **** that turns to tighten it, that is a PITA. Get one of the old lever type compressors that we used to use on the old small block Chevy motors. Cut it off so that it's about 3" long. Just use a rocker bolt and a washer to tighten it down on the spring. It's much faster.

Dave,
All the tips that the other members have posted are great suggestions.
I would like to suggest that you think about sending your new valve springs to CryoPlus to have them cryogenically stress relieved before you install them.
You can talk Kathi at CryoPlus by calling (330) 683-3375.
I have all my Ferrus-based parts, both engine and chassis, cryo treated before installation.
