I started the car this morning to a thunderous exhaust. In checking, the left
h pipe flange separated from the pipe. The wierd thing is it's a pristine cut on the pipe (no rust, welding slag, etc.) In checking the repair manaul it appears that the stock exhaust system is welded from the down pipes through the over the axle pipes. (common) Is this correct? I don't suppose that the flange on the H pipe is a slip joint? I'll get the car off the ground tomarrow to inspect. Please no comments on scrapping the exhaust for an after market. My extra cash is funneled into college funds.
Thanks in advance,
:seeya
I had the same thing happen 3 weeks ago. Thanks to forrum members I went to the local dealer. They put on a new H pipe under warranty. NO CHARGE.
My car is a 2000 C5 with 30,000 mi. I'm the second owner.
I have had good dealings with all the dealers that I have done business with.
I own an Outboard Motor Dealership. I think dealers are sometimes maligned.
I always try to help my custmers in warranty or repair situations. Customer relations build good friends and business follows.
Exhaust Epilogue:
Got the car off the ground, all four flanges were cracked.
Rather then go to the dealer and haggle, I decided to take
it to a muffler shop or I should say 3 muffler shops. The first
one had no rack that would lift the car. The 2nd, I was advised
had a performance car specialist. He began to lift the
car when I noticed (from the waiting room) that the jack posts
were no where near the lifting points. This sent me screaming and running through the shop. This terminated my repair contract. The 3rd shop
had a suitable drive-up lift and welded the flanges. Once up in the air, I got
a good look at the system. (poor craftsmanship) It does not appear that knuckle-head number 2 did any damage to the under side. I'll be back
under the car to inspect it closely. I guess somedays you really are the bug on the windshield.
welcome to the forum, and dump the stock pipes and go with a aftermarket unit, if funds are low try the c-5 parts for sale sec. and pick a used z06 exhaust for around 300 or 400 bucks you will love it. :yesnod:
