Would be interested, however was thinking higher gear, by the way lived in WS in mid 80's and had a convertible 74 and convertible 75, that was prekids.
I'm thinking of doing gears in my wife's 2000 coupe. Kind of thinking I'd be unsatisfied unless I go all the way to 4.10's. I could put 4.10's in my '01 vert and put that diff in my wife's. Still thinking on it.   decisions, decisions....
I really think the 3.42 is the best gear set and should come standard.. You will be amazed at what it does for your car especially with a stall.
:iagree: 3.73's is about high as you want to go in a A4 unless you are doing H/C and plan to race it often. I think the 3.42's are the best if you plan to keep it close to stock.

Go with the 3.42's! Forget about the TC and get a set of long tube headers and some new mufflers instead. The 3.42's will allow you to cruise at 2200 rpm @75 mph while still getting 24mpg. The difference in acceleration from the 2.73's is AMAZING, you will love them. :D
Kirby; keep in mind that the 3.15 to 3.42 swap is the least amount of change you can do,
2.73 to 3.15 = 15% change
2.73 to 3.42 = 25% change
3.15 to 3.42 = 8.5% change
3.15 to 3.73 = 18.5% change
and for 6 speed owners:
3.42 to 3.73 = 9.2% change
3.42 to 3.90 = 14% change
3.42 to 4.10 = 20%
I mention this because some say they can't even feel a difference going from the 2.73 to 3.15 (which is almost double the percentage increase of the 3.15 to 3.42).
I could definately "feel" the 3.15 to 3.42 upgrade on my A4. It wasn't a day/night improvement, but was what I was looking for at that time.
Since you probably won't change your rear axle ratio more than once; take time to determine what is best for your useage of the car. If you never visit the track - and always want to use run-flat tires - the 3.42 may be the best all-around ratio for the A4 under these specifics.
Once I see the C6 in person on Jan 8 and (in in July 2004) when my '02s warranty expires... I may (if I keep the car) look into 3.73 - versus - other engine bolt-on mods; and see which one I would like to have.
Re: New Gears for Automatic have 3.15- Cost? Where? Cleveland Ohio (krl)
I have studied this and driven a few cars. The 2:73 and 3:15 gears are not enough IMO. Mininmum is 3:42 and is the best if you are doing street and freeway driving. Street and drags, 3:73+. TC is fine if you have the right tires otherwise you will smoke the stock EMTs. For mixed driving I would stay with stock TC.
