I would have to say either the 3.42 or 3.73 gear. It all depends upon what you are going to do with the car. Are there any power adders your gouing to use,(ie) nitrous, supercharger, heads and cam.
To determine what T/C and gearing combo is best, we would have to know what are your plans for your car?
1) Do you plan on racing your car often?
2) What kind of tires are you planning on running?
3) Do you drive alot on the highway?
4) How important is driveability to you?
Well, I would probably decline on the nitrous, but as far as s/c or the heads and cam that would be and possible. I would basically be using the car as a go fast car, when I would want to, witha car like this I would like to make it to the track, but i'm not real sure how to get the c5 ready for it. thanks
The 3.42 gears are great if you want to maintain highway cruising capability (about 2200 rpm @75 mph and still get 24mpg). If you go with the 3.73's you will gain a little in the 1/4 mi but long distance highway cruising will be a pain. I didn't go with a converter but I know several who did with mixed results. If you plan on doing the 1/4 mi regularly, do it. If not, spend your money on a good set of long tube headers.

1) If your motor is N/A stock or with H/C = SS3600 or SS3800 and 3.42 or 3.73 gears.
2) If you have a S/C = The Yank PYE3400 or PYE3600 and 3.42 gears.

:iagree: As long as my C5 is a daily driver I'm staying with the factory TC. However, real :D with my 3.42 rear diff & Pro LG LT Header system :yesnod:
Don't be afraid of a converter. Match it with gears and it will tighten up. I guarantee you will want a converter later.
I like the SY3500 for a daily driver. :steering:

i think if your gonna make it a go fast car I would do it right the first time. But I think the 3.42s are perfect for any application. You should get the ST3500 it is hard hitting off the line. The SY3500 actually has a lower STR than stock. If your making it a go fast car I'd assume you wont be on street tires so I would definitely get the ST3500
I have studied this and driven a few cars. The 2:73 and 3:15 gears are not enough IMO. Mininmum is 3:42 and is the best if you are doing street and freeway driving. Street and drags, 3:73+. TC is fine if you have the right tires otherwise you will smoke the stock EMTs. For mixed driving I would stay with stock TC and go with 3:42 but it looks like you will want more than that based on future mods.
