STROKER + NITROUS = WHAT CONVERTER SIZE??
Running a 427 Stroker motor (approximately 500rwhp/500rwtq N/A) and gonna be a nice shot of the funny stuff and shooting for the mid/low 9's. Currently i have a small vigalante 2800 stall in the car.
I will be upgrading the tranny to a level IV this winter/spring. and was wondering if i should change the coverter while the trans was out?
The questions I have are which brand and why? (Vigalante / Yank)
What size stall seems to be working out there?
or should i remain with the converter i have now?
*The car is driven daily (when its nice out), but im looking for some sweet times
The car ran 10.7's on stock motor and a 150 shot of nitrous with the old set-up of a vigalante 2800, LT's, 3.73 gear and able to spray right off the line on a ccw hoosier set-up.
But with my new configuration to much power to the ground to be able to leave the line on the juice. And will come out on HP then run nitrous the rest of the way down, plus hopefully this will help me from breaking things all the time.
Thanks for any help and it would also help to why you believe the converter you recommend would be best for me. :steering:
Shot size - 200-300 depending on traction and e/t's

Talk with Mike Senia of Yank ..he will help you make the right decision :yesnod:

A nitrous converter will be very tight and lock up quick so that it can utilize all of the torque from the nitrous hit. This will cause your car to be a bit of a dog off the line when running n/a.
You will definitely have many hurdles to get over on your way to low 9s in a c5.
This is what Cartek recommended, and they pretty much know whats going on in that dept., with all the R&D they do. I had 4.10's in it, and dropped to 3.73's, but was told if I want to do a 250-300 shot that I would have to drop to at least 3.42's maybe even 3.15's. Matt was right about a tight nitrous converter killing your N/A times, but my car is 500/500, I drive mine everyday, and it runs 10.80's @ 127 with 1.49 60' times. I think with a good NA converter that it would probably go 10.60's. You kind of have to build your car "slower" to go "faster" if you know what I mean. I think I have a pretty good all around combo right now. 10.80's N/A , and with a 250 shot, I should be able to go 9.70's.
Good Luck
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Just that now I think I have two small of a converter - 2800 vig tight nitrous converter (based on stock ls1 motor - STR- im not sure), im pulling 1.52 60' times with a little bit of spin, track conditions sucked. (N/A) with current set-up.
The best the car pulled to date was earlier this year a 1.44 on a stock motor, stall, 3.73's, FLP, and a 150 shot of the juice. Which equated to a 10.7x pass.
Naturally aspirated the car has run 10.9x's thus far, it has more in it, and it has some tuning issues and shift point issues that need to be ironed out, im thinking with a little bigger nitrous converter and the correct tuning and shift points it should run 10.60 n/a and i should go to the mid 9's on the juice.....
But I have some time to work out the small details and some Testing and Tuning to do before i think about spraying it. (which is already purchased and ready to be installed on the car) & yes the car will be delayed - to save on breakage off the line.
As of right now looking to get the trans done, and since im back there i might as well switch out converters if needed...
What do you think about gearing also. As Troy mentioned with a 250-300 shot will i need to go back to a 3.42 or even a 3.15 or has any of these nine second cars done so on a 3.73??? What gearing did you guys have?
Major - What Stall/Gear combo are you currently using to get you the times you have now?
Vince/Troy thanks for the recommendation and reasoning - those are the kinds of answers that will help me make my selection.
Thanks for the help thus far guys - you guys are great!!!! :seeya

Trust me when I tell you ..It isn't any fun being stranded at the track with a blown transmission...Not fun at all!!
Ill be talking to FLP and Yank about a new trans build and getting something a little stronger, I must say im really interested in talking to yank about their turbo 400 and maybe a lil trans brake  but will need to talk to them and FLP and see what is best for me and my expectations.
Might learn how to rebuild trans' myself it will be more cost effective :D especially rebuilding them every other month
Any recommendations on a good trans builder or what parts make a hell of difference that i should be looking into??? I know someone that builds transmissions for a living, and if supplied all the parts he could put it together, or would i be better off having FLP/Yank/xxxxxx build the trans?
Looking for something cost effective that will hold for a long(er) period of time, i dont have the time nor money to be rebuilding transmissions every other month.
Thanks again guys and keep the great comments and suggestions coming
P.S. Happy New Years to everyone!!!!!
I currently run 342s in the rear the convertor is a custom multi disk unit. As for the life span of a 4l60 tranny my record stands at 9 passes they can't handle the power. I have tried three differnt builders all with the same results.
I have had the Yank 400 system in my car with some issues. They have been adressed and we will be testing it out right after the Shoot Out. I am hopefull that this will be the the way to go but I do expect some bugs.
I will keep everyone posted

GIVE FLP a shot i know you used them on your tune, etc. with good success and CHUCK will build you a tranny that will get it done and he also stands behind his tranny 100% and he somewhat local to you. GIVE FLP a shot and i think you will be happy!!!!
