Hey all. I'm new to this site but I've had my 2000 C5 Hardtop since I ordered it new in '99. It's bone stock (and will probably stay that way) with about 10k miles. The black paint on the mufflers has been flaking off and I want to repaint them. My question is this: Does anyone have any experience with or advise on removing the tail pipe section? The connection to the exhaust pipe looks easy enough. What about the nuts for the hanger in the very rear? Can you loosen them up from the bottom, or do you need to go through the trunk to hold a bolt? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

The nuts on the hangers are very easy to take off. I had no problem with the clamp on the exhaust pipe. Just use a block of wood to hold the pipe in place so you can do some twisiting to release.

Re: Tail Pipe/Muffler Removal (jjpc5)
The nuts on the hanger at the back can come off from under the car - no problem. If you want to drop it down to paint, just put the car up on some jackstands. If you want to get the pipes totally off the car, you will have to go up further. Just be careful of any overspray if you paint them close to the car. Good luck.
