My Delco AGM died last week, and not comfortable with the replacement Delco that Chevy provided. A contact of my wife has a couple of yellow top Optimas that are super cheap (less than 1/3 price of retail). Will it work in the Vette or do I need to search for the red top ???
Also, since I have a chrome battery cover, does anyone make a beauty cover to hide the top posts, since it appears their batteries have both ??
BTW, are those new yellow tops your friend has or were they used ?
They are supposedly new ....he is a distributor and got these by mistake, and could not return to his supplier. Since my wife purchases other items from him, he would throw us a deal.
 Holy crapp!! You have a 2002 and a dead battery. Did they still use the sidepost AC Delco turd battery in 2002. Reason be, my battery went dead in my 99 and after removing my battery tray, low and behold my PCM was covered in battery acid. Did you check for leaks? Hope it was just a dead battery. The yellow top is awsome!! Thats what I used after my battery incident. :mad

For the 2002 Model year GM put an AGM (glass matt, sealed) battery in the Vette to avoid the spilled acid on PCM. They discontinued this battery already also as it is prone to going bad with a bad cell and leaving owners stranded. The replacement battery also has side posts and appears to be a traditional acid type battery and thats why I am considering the Optima.
All the Optima batteries are top notch. The difference between the red top and the yellow top is the yellow is deep cycle battery. Meaning it is meant to be deep cycled over and over. The red top is like other standard car bars and does not respond well to being deep cycled. Either way if you are getting a yellow top for a 1/3rd of the price buy it....you will not go wrong. Matter of fact if he has two more I would not mind paying you a few a bucks for them.
I see your from Florida, so you will probably never need the extra cranking power of the red top. I think it's been quite a while since they had any subzero mornings that far south. If your car is not a daily driver, the yellow top is actually a better choice. The car can sit for extended periods of time, and the battery will not be damaged when it is deeply discharged.
My 2002 stock battery went dead at the strip a few weeks ago. Went to Auto Zone and got the Red Top. Works fine. My stock barttery was not exercized enough and probably went dead due to that. I have found that batteries that are worked to death usually last a lot longer than those that just sit and are used ever few weeks or so. My 117K mile F150 stock battery  is still ticking (although probably on borrowed time!).

Thats why the Yellow Top is ideal... its a deep cycle battery.
Love my Yellow Top. It allows for rapid and deep cycling beyond what most batteries will do including the Red Top. Sorry, but there is a few different Yellow Tops, I don't believe any come without top posts, but hey, it's an Optima so display it, don't cover it up with chrome.
