What are the differences as far as horsepower. I've heard they have a few more ponies than just the LS1. Why is this? Is the LS6 stronger as well? :jester
For years '02+ The difference is around 50-55 Cran ponies.
This can be attributed to :
1- Open Intake Port ( actually little more than current C5 )
2- Better Heads
3- Lighter Valve Train
4- More aggressive cam
5- Better Short Block
6- May be the TI exhaust :skep:
OK. The LS6 block incorporated bulkhead windows which allowed better crankcase breathing between bays & resulted in decreased crankcase pressure. :seeya
Even though the blocks where shared heavily(typically, LS1 spec'd vehicles got an LS6 block), the LS6 block I believe still only got the additinal machining to open the bay to bay windows more when built on the LS6 line. The LS6 block is cast from a stronger material, but I have heard a few vendors like the LS1 block for resleeving...

c4c5specialist (gm dealer tech) on here quite a while back, confirmed the bay to bay breathing windows in late 01+ C5 LS1's that he has disassembled for various reasons.
Jason Squires on here also had this to say in a late 01 post here:
"F.Y.I. During a tour of the St. Catherines, Ontario GM Engine Plant (where our C5 engines are built) we learned that our LS1 block will be replaced by the LS6 block."
