I have a chirp coming from under my hood. The car only does this when it is in drive. I have changed the belt tensioners and the belts. However the noise still hasn't stopped. Could someone please help me, the noise is driving me insain. It's just loud enough to make me go nuts. :banghead: :banghead:

bhvette97,
I had the same problem with my 1999 C5 coupe - There is a TSB that applies to 1997 - 1999 C5's (and 1998 - 1999 Camaro/Firebird) with the LS1 engine. It instructs the dealer to replace the idler pulley (the one under the alternator) with a revised / updated part.
My dealer replaced the idler pulley with the revised part as specified in the TSB and it eliminated the chirp / squeak. The part is inexpensive and the TSB allows 0.3 hours of labor. The mechanic said it is easier to replace from below while the car is on a lift.
You can see the bulletin and instructions at http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com - just go to the knowledge base area and select C5's and "engine". You'll find the bulletin.
Good luck - this is just another one of many defects in the C5.

Could be an idler pulley or maybe even the alternator pulley. If it will do it while in drive but not moving, have someone hold the brake and then listen to see if you can pinpoint the noise. Good luck.
