Default p0172 code

Can anybody help me out with this code. I'm looking for someone that's experienced this and can send me in the right direction. The guy at Autozone tells me I either have fouled plugs or a bad 02 sensor. It anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

I looked up DTC PO172 Fuel Trim System Rich Bank 1 in my 98 service manual . To give you the short version, the powertrain control module monitors the voltage from the oxygen sensor. If it detects a lean condition, the pcm will add fuel. Likewise , if it detects a rich condition it will lean it out. If it's excessive either way, it will set a trouble code. Hope this helps. :chevy

fault is for running rich.look for loose/off intake duct, clogged air filter, oil cap loose, oil dipstick not all the way in,cracked vacuum lines[pcv],stuck open evap valve, etc.anything that would make the engine run rich.2 things would do it.1]lack of air2]too much fuel.stupid question.do you have headers?if you do,make sure the o2 harnesses aren't up against the headers[burning through],could happen with stock set-up,but most likely to happen after header install.JMO

P0172 is Fuel Trim System Rich Bank 1. Bank 1 is the driver side of the engine and since it is only that bank that is rich, you can probably rule out the airbox and MAF or anything else that is common to both banks as problems with them would cause P0175 to set as well as P0172.

The most likely causes are leaking injectors and/or a bad left front O2 sensor.
