Does any of you have a BBK 80mm throttle body? Did it come polished or was that additional? Could you feel a better throttle response and/or a harder pull?
Re: HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR BBK THROTTLE BODY (vettewreck)
Its ok, it came polished its standard. I felt a difference in throttle response it was much more smother and quicker. Definatly better quality than stock.
Re: HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR BBK THROTTLE BODY (vettewreck)
I'll let you know in a week. As we speak I am waiting on a BBK 80mm that has been ported and polished by Shaner. Shaner does an awsome job on stock ones, imagine what the BBK will look and feel like!
Re: HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR BBK THROTTLE BODY (vettewreck)
I did mine with larger MAF ends, Vorterx, Mag, Cartek Stage II heads and cam, breathless headers, 3" cats and Borla XR1 so I can't speak for it alone. But I do think it's part of the little differences that got a Mag car with H/C to 501rwhp.

Re: HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR BBK THROTTLE BODY (vettewreck)
I like mine, ran smoother, more responsive, felt a little quicker, and who can complain about that whistle that turns heads half a block away. Try the vararam vr1b noticed big difference with that mod.
Re: HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR BBK THROTTLE BODY (vettewreck)
what does the 80mm get ported to? and how much does Shanner cost to do this on my own TB??
The 80mm measurement is the diameter of the TB where the butterfly (throttle plate) is. This dimension does not change. All Mark does is open up the bell some more and polish everything up. I just got mine today and it looks fantastic. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
Shaner charges $189 (shipped) to port/polish your stock TB and it shouldn't be any different for him to do a BBK.

Re: HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR BBK THROTTLE BODY (vettewreck)
This may be a stupid question. But, what exactly is the difference between the BBK unit and the stock unit? If you have to port the BBK unit what is the advantage of using it?

The BBK is already 80mm. The stock is 75mm I believe.
I polished mine just to "help" the flow. The stock BBK is not polished that well. Next time I see you at the Friday night Denny's meet you can see mine and hear it, the whistle is very cool IMHO!!! I paid $250 for mine, but at $400+ I would not do it, just get the Shatner version.
Talk to you soon.

I think the OE unit is 78mm. The BBK just doen's seem worth the money to me. Unported and only 2mm larger. Not much ROI on this mod.

Is it worth having the bigger throttle body with the same size intake manifold? How much hp does it add? Does anyone exactly how to port and polish the stock one? Can you mess it up bad?

Re: HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR BBK THROTTLE BODY (DelMonteZO6)
It's not worth $400, but I got it for much less. The advantage of the 80 mm is the area at the butterfly, meaning no loss in size (due to the 80 mm at that point); the neck down area is back to 75 mm is after that.
I actually wanted this unit for the adapter plate for use with my NX system, as well as what I heard about throttle response. I "feel" it is a little quicker on the response, but these engines are screamers to begin with so who knows. There are plenty of articles on polishing your own TB, check the search function for some very good details.
I personally like the BBK and there sure are plenty of forum members that have it!!!
Here is a picture of my setup:
Re: HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR BBK THROTTLE BODY (Airwolf)
I installed my BBK 80mm (reworked by Shaner) this Friday evening and I could definitely feel the difference in the throttle response. Especially after I performed the idle-relearn and drove it for about 35 miles. I am very happy with it and would definitely recommend this TB to anyone. I am a little disappointed that it doesn't whistle though! :D Maybe porting and polishing it eliminates the whistle.
I purchased mine from a forum member because he upgraded to the TPIS 90mm Widemouth and modified intake. I probably would not have purchased one "new" but I couldn't pass up this deal on a used one.
For anyone thinking about upgrading to a ported & polished "stock" or aftermarket Throttle Body just remember that within the next few months there will be tons of throttle bodies (stock & ported) for sale because the new FAST Intakes & TB's will be shipping. Also the TPIS setups are becoming more popular.
