Default LS2 Block ?????

Hi All,

In reading the information on the C6 I got thinking about the new bore size.
According to what I read the bore is 4.0 and is a siamize design. Since the C5R block is also siamize cylinders and the blocks are delivered at 4.1 it seems that they have some points in common. Now I know that a .125 bore job is hugh but I have been wondering just how much the LS2 block can be bored. It sounds like Chevrolet might have used the C5R castings but with the smaller sleeves. Remember when they wanted to make the changes on the LS6 block they made that block standard on LS1s. They do like to use a few part numbers as possible. It could be that this is the foundation for a 427 Blue Devil to possibly come later.

I'm not an engineer and may be just suffering brain freeze (11 degrees @ 11:45 am). I'm trying to think warm thoughts to get me to spring.

I would dought that GM use the C5R block with thicker sleeves. I would guess that they used the LQ4 block, but cast in aluminum. If that is the case, it could most likely take a 0.060" overbore. Just my $0.02 :)

The C5R block uses conventional pressed in sleeves like the ZR1 and other performance type aluminum blocks, I would doubt seriously that the LS2 block is manufactured this way, as its quite labor intensive, and thus expensive.

My guess is that the LS2 block is made like the LS6 block, sand cast with cast in sleeves, just that they are bigger.
I'd even bet the LS2 has the same .010" overbore limitation of the LS1 and LS6 blocks.

Just my thoughts.
