LS1 Edit

Hey people, what do I need to tune my own car ? Where can I get the components? Is it hard to use?

You need LS1 edit ( software), a Computer ( Hardware) and lastly an LS1 :thumbs:

Depending on your mods and how serious you are, you would also need a scanner like EFI or Autotap and possibly an on board wideband.

You can't sell it after it is used - the program is only good for your VIN - so no one cares to give a lower price. If you have several people near you that would be willing to split costs, get the Edit for more than one car. Four of us up here got the programming for our cars, and the averaged cost was $250 each. I believe it's $450 for the first car and $150 for each car (up to three) added to the originally purchased software. I would still suggest hiring a tuner for a few hundred bucks to come do the cars. After watching a pro do several on the same day, it really is not something I would want to tackle by myself. Too many adjustments and too many variables. I watched another tuner getting trained on these same cars, and I was dumbfounded how much there was to know about these cars and computers. Every year is different. My '99 was a simple tune, while the '03 after me didn't even respond after starting with the same numbers I ended with. In fact, it LOST hp. Too much to know and too much to screw up - I wouldn't do it myself. Good luck!

Hypertech tuners are no good if you want to get any hp from them. I gained a 3rwhp when I had it on my Transam. Its only really good for if you change the gears and you can reprogram it to your new gear setup. Also its good if you have an A4 and a cooler thermostat. But for power, forget about it. Spend your money on something else.
