My steering wheel sqeeks when I make a sharp turn at low speeds, mind you the temp out side is only single #s. I saw a fix in the tech section but I can not tell where to spray the white grease from the picture, anybody know?
Yeah, my squeek is right behind the airbag/steering wheel as well. Just seems like the plastic pieces are rubbing, like there isn't enough space between them. It's really annoying, and quite embarrasing if you have a passanger in the car.
This is a common problem that is fairly easily fixed. The squeeking/moaning from the steering wheel is coming from the steering shaft bushings. If your hand is small enough to get to the upper nylon bearing towards the firewall you can spray it with white moly grease. I actually taped a couple of the little "straw type" extensions together in order to reach it. There is also a lower bearing towards the steering box that is easy to lube. I think that if you do a search you can find some photos also.
Thanks for the tip. I'll get under there this week and see if I can find it.
P.S. I bet your Palm Destert temp. display pisses a bunch of people off this time of year. ;) Yesterday it was 76 degrees in Irvine, CA. Yummy. Tonight I fly to SLC, Utah, where it was 19 degrees this morning. :P
The link works but the second picture seems to be broken on this Mac. The first picture show a can spraying somehting. It was hard to tell what was being sprayed from where. Maybe the second (broken) picture clarifies the location of what to spray?
MacMan, you are right, it's been great here. My son lives in SLC (Sandy) and yes it is cold!
In the above link it is showing the lower bushing. In my situation it was the upper that was making all of the noise. The bushings are white nylon.
