2002 w/A4 & 2.73 gears
Plan to do some drag racing this year, maybe 20-30 runs on street tires. Will this begin to cause excessive wear or damage to the trans. Still under warranty & plan to keep the car a long time.
I know a few guys running 12.0-12.3's on stock tranny(A4's) with no problems. With probably 100+ runs on each, plus some hard street driving :yesnod:
I looked into a shift kit but decided against it. I saw too many people saying that it just adds extra stress on the transmission but doesn't effect your E.T. :steering:
Guess i should add that racing WILL shorten the life of your tranny but, you should still get years of trouble free operation out of it :seeya
You should be fine for a for a while, its when your HP #'s start rising and DR's go on that problems are encountered.
:iagree: Mine was fine with all the bolt-ons, and it went about 4,000 additional miles with the H/C install(with run-flats), before I finally started getting a whiff of that tell/tale burnt smell. That's when I changed to a level four tranny! :yesnod:
It's not HP that is the limit, it is max. torque and the C5 4L60E is limited to 360 ft. lbs. That's why the A4 has only a max. torque of 360 ft. lbs. and the MN6 has 375 ft. lbs.
The C6 will use the 4L65E which has a higher torque capability of 380 ft. lbs and must be even upgraded for the C6 since it has 400 ft. lbs. This tranny is also used on the Cadillac Escalade SUV with the high perf. 6.0
Must be pretty durable overall. I have about 10k miles with a Sy3500
TC and a shift kit with track passes, 1-road course, and numerous 1000+
mile trips to Virginia, with no problems whatsoever. I also run a tranny
cooler too. My car just hit 80k earlier this month.
If your car is stock you can race as much as you want just let the tranny cool 20min between runs and it will have no problems. If you change Converters & gears you will need to install a Tranny cooler and and try not to Hot Lap the tranny. The Main thing to remember is to let it cool down a little between runs. :yesnod:  :seeya
