Help! TP sensors

Help! TP sensors
I just had a local garage mount my new tires. When I asked if they put the wheels back on the same corners they took them off they said it didn't matter. MY DIC says service system although I haven't driven it. Are they right or does it matter which wheel goes where?

you are up a creek.they must have the l/f on the r/f or a l/r on the r/r or vice-versa[can't have the rears and fronts mixed,they are different sizes,but anything is possible].you have 2 choices.either get the rims back to where they belong[hit or miss whether it's front/rears/both]or get the magnet and resynch the system.---good luck.

It most definitely matters. I had a similar problem when I mounted my new rims and tires. When and if you have to reprogram the sensors, it should really come into play. There are a lot of info on this web site about those TP sensors.

If you don't want to reprogram, you have to put the sensors back on the same location as they came off of. If the shop did not do this, you will get the message you described.
If you have a strong magnet, you can reprogram them yourself (there is probably some tips in the Tech Tips section - very easy to do) or take them back to the shop and have them do it right.

Couple of things:
1) If the pressure sensors were programmed on your wheels before the tire swap, they should read fine again when remounted, regardless of whether they put the wheels in the wrong place (switched left<-->right). Granted, your DIC will be telling you the left has the right pressure and vice versa. This is bad, but I want to be clear that the sensors should work regardless of whether they screwed up or not.
2) You can drive it until you get a reading on all four corners and the tires are warm. Then, let enough air out of both right or both left tires and drive (carefully) around until they read the new pressure. That will tell you which ones are where.
and 3) No sweat if they are wrong, reprogramming is a breeze and there are many posts on that process.

ahah, What happened was this. While the wheels were off the ignition was turned on to get the odometer reading, thus giving the "service" signal. I drove the car today and everything turned out "ok", however, I have to check now and see if the tires are on the right corners. I did a search on the forum and found a LOT of info, Thanks to everyone
