A friend just bought a low milage 01 conv. It ran fine for several days, but now when he starts it, it will fire but then go immediately go dead. It will do this several time then start and run fine. When it does this, all gauges will bounce back to zero? Has anyone seen this before? Any clue what to look for?
first, make sure you have fuel[put some in if you are not sure].if you have fuel and it still starts and stalls,do you get any "remove key"messages on the dic?check to see if you have any faults.
Thanks, but we have checked fuel and we tried the other key. If he tries it 3 or 4 times it will start and then runs great. I've had my C5 for 5 years and heard of many problems, but nothing like this.. ?????????? It sounds to me as if it is something to do with security and shuts the engine down.. Still looking for some one that may have heard of this or experienced this...
if you have a security/anti theft intervention, the security light should be flashing[you didn't say whether it did or didn't].you also didn't state if you have any faults.assuming you have no faults or no security issues, maybe you are loosing residual fuel pressure.to check this you need a fuel pressure gauge.
I just picked up my '04 Z06 a few weeks ago and was noticing the same issue. When I was starting it I would let go of the key and it would snap far enough back that it turned the engine off.
Hope that helps

If the batery has been disconnected or replaced, there is a particular procedure you must go through to put the anti-theft back to normal. I saw this happen with mine about two weeks ago when the tech changed the battery then tried to drive it. After about the third time, he pulled the key out and waited ten seconds then restarted the car.
Now, why would that one run fine for a while? Maybe the anti-theft system is hosed up.
Or maybe the battery is hosed up since you said all guages go to zero. Does it reset the HUD to show oil level? I had a 2k that did that once in a while after I started it. Had the battery replaced and it never happened again.
