I'm about to replace my stock '02 chrome wheels with HRE 449, Kinesis K17/18 or BBS LM wheels and Goodyear F1 GS-D3 or Michelin Pilot Sports tires. First: can you advise me about a distributor of these wheel brands that you have had a particularly good (or bad) experience with? Secondly: any guidance about these three wheel choices? Finally: any advice about sticking with OE sizing, versus going +1? (I have noticed that several C5 owners have gone 18" front and rear. Why?) Thanks. Looking forward to spring here in Illinois!
Re: Best sources for aftermarket wheels? (Michael Trout)
Most people run 18" in the front for looks, as it does look better. I did them to run 14" front brake rotors. If I ever decide to buy wheels again, I'll go 19" front ant 20" rear.
Re: Best sources for aftermarket wheels? (Michael Trout)
Welcome Mike, most any of the forum vendors here can get you wheels - Xtreme, Corvette Garage, LAPD, COH, David Farmer (Kinesis), CCW, Ronal, etc. Your best bet is to call around and talk to them. They'll treat you right because they work with us every day (and they know they'd catch an earful otherwise  ). Hope to see you around at some events this coming year, after we thaw out
Re: Best sources for aftermarket wheels? (msghuff)
I don't think so, as I imagine I'll want them in the fall, to install some all-season tires for the winter. Why? Are you interested in them? I'm afraid I've no idea what they are worth.
Thanks for the tip. I emailed Corvette Garage this morning, and am waiting to hear back. Yes, I notice that the corvettegarage website does not show the 449R--don't know why. It's similar to the 549.
