Default Battery Tray Insert

It seems to me that with a history of leaking batteries like we have seen, someone would sell a acid proof tray insert to prevent battrery leaks from leaking down and causing furthur damage. Anyone know of a source?

A tray is not fool proof. Often when these batteries leak, they leak at the terminals and acid flows down the battery cables. This would bypass any tray. In fact, this is why a lot of people miss their leaking battery until it is too late, they look for acid under the battery not running down the cables.

Don't take a chance, any regular lead-acid battery can leak. I had a DELCO leak in a new Pontiac Bonneville. In your C5 if it leaks, the computer and the wiring harness can be toast ! They are located directly under the battery.

I replaced my DELCO with a Champion XLT (AGM Battery) size/number DT35/CHXDT35 made by Exide. Got it at SAMS Club for $90-95. It has 690 CCA, 850 CA, a 36 month free replacement and free jump-start, and a 108 month limited warranty.

I just had to replace my replacement Delco battery. I bought an Optima.

Has anyone had a non Delco battery leak? I my life (which is a long time) I have only had three batteires self-descruct. One in a 74 Nove exploded (I believe it was a Delco) and two in my C5.

There is a neutralizing pad sold by various battery specialists just for this problem. Is is like a sponge and sits under the battery and absorbs any spill.

I have 35 years of history in the battery business and came in contact with all kinds of battery problems and found 2 types of battery leaks; cracked cases from puncture or impacts
and Delco batteries at the terminals.
Other batteries do not leak as other manufacturers have molded terminals and Delco has pressed terminals. Delco came out with side terminals in late '69 with molded and no problems, then went to pressed around '92 and the leaks started.
