Need help on building x-pipe / high flow cat unit
i am planning to create my own x-pipe/high flow cat assembly. The unit has to meet
a few requirements, i hope you guys can help me in deciding what to get.
As we have very strict technical/emission inspections here in germany, the stock h-pipe
cat unit will stay intact and will be stored for this inspections. This means the new
x-pipe/high flow cats unit has to be "one" thing to have it replaced as easy as the
stock unit (welding or band clamp solution ?)
I have to stay with the stock exhaust manifold (later will upgrade to a b&b shorty header).
There is no long tube header that will meet the german TUV inspection requirements,
but the b&b shorty does so.
Now for the parts: A Forum Member (thanks Joseph !) cut the front pipes of the original
h-pipe/cat section right in front of the stock cats. So i can connect this unit to the B&B
shortys and the other side to the high flow cats. What after market high flow cats would
you recommend to connect (weld or clamp ?) to this section ? How will the cats then be
connected to the new x-pipe section, and what brand of x-pipe would you recomend to
give me the best fit for this setup ? Do i need again a short pipe from the original
h-pipe ?
My main concern is about the different diameters of the different parts i am planning to
install.

Random Tech cats have seemed to get god reviews.
Try Lou at LGMotorsports and see what he sells with his signature lontube headers. Personally, if it had to look factory, I'd rather weld everything together to also help in the one piece installation/removal.
edit: saw your pics, your wife got a sister? :smash:

yes, i think i will have all weld together. We have to pass the TUV Inspection every two years. I will try to pass with the x-pipe / high flow cat section, and if i get problems i can change back easy to the old h-pipe, which i will store in the celler . . .
I would love to go with the longtube headers, but thats a definitally NO GO :nono: on our TUV, and thats a mod i cannot reverse within one or two hours, so i prefer to stay with the shortys. Same thing when the police stops you and find the long tubes . . . they will not let you drive your car back home. It will be towtracked by your own expenses to the next garage to change it back to stock !
Some police guys are quite good informed. One realized that i dont have the stock mufflers "Arent those tips not a little too big ?", i convinced him by saying "Its the new MY 2000 design, they increased the diameter of the tips . . ." He believed me and let me go :D luckyme.
Thanks again for your help !
Jochen
PS. Aeehhhm no, my wife does not have a sister, but many many good looking cousins . . . Next time you should join us on our trip to south america
:D
Take care

Take care
As far as i see this combo, the conection between the x-pipe and the cats will be more easy, because of the elimination of any additional stock pipe.
