How serious of a racer are you? Definitely not worth it to me. If you're trying to squeeze every little hp out of your car and you race every weekend in competition....then maybe. But hell, at that point start ripping body panels out to save weight, etc, etc, etc

Re: cutouts. are they woth it? (Buckmaster)
If you get a chance and money for a brief amount of labor is no big deal, go to your local muffler shop and have them disconnect the mufflers. Then crank it up and if you like what you hear, give Barry Adler at QuickTime Performance a call and tell him that might be interested in his unique system of electrical cutouts. I got 'em, and I love 'em! The most fun mod I have is pressing a little micro-switch and turning these babies on and off at will. The sound is AWESOME! :yesnod:
And, no, the bottom of the car does not get all carboned up because you install the cutouts facing downward and angled towards the pavement.
If your only looking for sound...then that's one thing. If your looking for power...I don't think you will like the result. On my 98 A4 Coupe, Cartek spend a day or two swapping exhausts and comparing them to the power of open pipes. The end result was that with proper selection, the car made the same RWHP, which was 424 by the way, with either open pipes or the "final" X pipe and cat back. I use this car as a daily driver and have no issues with idle, torque conv., or mileage (still over 28 mpg) and you can see the performance it gives in my signature. Contact Dave @ Cartek for more details if you like, or look in the November 03 issue of GMHiTech for coverage of it as well.
I think you would like them since you have a cam in your car. When I fired my car up after I put the cam in with just headers I thought it was the greatest sound. I will be adding them sooner or later. kaley
I would agree w/ Buckmaster. If you race every weekend, then yes. Otherwise, quality headers, high-flow cats (or none at all) and a free-flowing muffler system will get you within a few HP of wide open exhaust, and sound a lot better. IMHO, no-muffler systems belong on redneck farm trucks and race cars (LEGIT race cars.)

I absoslutely LOVE MINE and they are a COMPLETE RIOT being able to go to mild to WILD sounding exhaust by flicking a switch in your ashtray. Also, what is really cool is that you can open them up partially just a crack or two and adjust the sound at any given moment so you can get different levels of tone and decibels out of the cut outs.
THis is certainly one of the funnest mods i have done as its a priceless source of entertainment and intimidation factor on the street and car shows, etc. and of course should be worth a little extra power also! Best $500 i spend on my car GO FOR IT!!!! I must admit though if your doing it strictly for performance and nothing else then i would say its not worth it on your stock cubed motor and no, i never noticed a foul smell, etc!
