I need your help. I would like to hear from all of you Vette owners of any problems with your gas gauges. I find myself in a very difficult and frustrating predicament here in Canada.
Brought my 2000 triple black convertible Vette in for servicing at a "reputable dealer" for a faulty gas gauge; left with a damaged back side panel and to make matters worse, the gas gauge is still not working properly.
GM Canada is ignoring me (thinks I'm going to go away or something); the dealer thinks that a simple wax job will cover up the body shop's negligent patchy paint job - they attempted to correct their negligence FOUR TIMES.
Now I know that my Vette has lost value and is no longer in the "original" state that I bought it at - diminished value/appearance allowance - up here in Canada, they don't even want to know what that means!!!! :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad
What I need is any feedback and/or information about this problem that I see will eventually explode in their faces. I dancing with the "big boys" up here and I need all of your help and support.
Not much I can offer but sympathy. Not knowing what the specific problem with your gas gauge is, there are known characteristics of the gauges dropping suddenly to zero when there is obviously fuel in the tank. Mine would drop to zero sporadically, usually whenever there was less than a half tank of fuel. It hasn't happened in a while, but I'm never saying never again.
As far as your damage goes, try contacting your insurance company, and the bank as well if you've still got a loan on the car. Unfortunately, unless you can get some documented evidence that the damage was caused at the dealership, I doubt that you have any legal recourse (assuming your civil liabilities laws are similar to US laws).
Check with Cobra4B, I believe. He just had some success with warranty issues by writing a letter to GM Execs...Check in the C5 general discussion area for his thread.
Let them know you will go so far as to seek legal recourse against them. They must meet YOUR SATISFACTION, not theirs. Do not give up or fold until it's resolved. Write to GM about it. Send emails and keep harassing the dealership. Then make sure you never go back.

Re: GAS GAUGE=DAMAGED VETTE (MS. BLACK BEAR)
Sorry your first post has to be about a problem with a dealer. Keep pestering them until they give in. Also, write multiple letters to GM, get any consumer protection agencies involved, etc. Good luck having this fixed to YOUR satisfaction.
If you have the invoices / services records that mention the damage and their repeated efforts to repair it, you have a strong case for a Small Claims civil suit. Diminished value, non-performance, costs, etc., but it must be based on provable FACTS. The new limit in Alberta is $25K, and you don't need a lawyer to do it. A paralegal may be useful if you find the process intimidating. Once mediation (pre-trial) starts, the dealership lawyer will rapidly realize that Judges aren't on their side, and I think you'll find that the dealership will settle. It never hurts to post your problem and ask for advice in any local auto forms in your town, by way of encouraging the dealer to do the right thing..
