? underdrive pulley ( any problems for a daily driver )
I'm building up my 2001 engine. Should I install a underdrive pulleys ?
I use the car as my daily driver.
1 will my lights dim at idle
2 will the water pump speed be ok for stop and go trafic
3 a/c unit ? I live in florida heat ( in city driving )
Thanks Mark ( I'm planning on looking for one at the show if it makes sence for my driving conditions )
I have one and don't have any problems with the florida heat. Not a daily driver, but I haven't noticed dimmer lights, etc. I wouldn't hesitate.
Shop that did my head/cam and had dyno'd underdrives said that they do not add any power or Tq to the LS1. Skipped that mod as as waste of $$.

One shops opinion. I trust John Page and the LPE team...they put one in during my cam swap. BTW...no negative effects on the electrical or HVAC systems.

It is going to depend on how much you underdrive. 10-15% is probably OK, 50% is not :D
Not to belabor the point, but this was not an opinion but backed up with Dyno FACTS. This shop does work for Katech so they are reputable too.

My underdrive hasn't caused any adverse affects on my electrical.
At night w/ AC, 7" Wide Screen, DVD player, and Subwoofer no issues!
Make sure you torque down the crank bolt as much as possible. When I did my cam swap originally the pulley was out of stock, so I didn't do it. But then the crank bolt walked out because the GM torque spechs aren't enough, so when I fixed it I decided to put the pulley on.
I know that alot of people say they have no problems but at night in traffic with lights, a/c, radio, and both fans on I have seen my volts drop to 11.6 but to this point no problems other than lights going dim.
I just removed mine due to knock at higher rpm. My car is a daily driver in Arizona. The lights did dim a little but no other problems. IMO.....skip the UD Pulley and go for the electric water pump. Why? more hp/tq, way better cooling for the heat and no knock.
