My 98 had a dead battery due to radar detector being left on. We satarted it with jumper cables. Now the check engine light is on and the engine cuts off when the car is put into drive. Is the problem that the battery need a full charge or do I have other problems. Thanks for any help.

The electrical stuff in cars nowadays is so touchy, that all you may need to do is get the battery up to full charge. You could put it on a charger, but if you can get it to run good enough, it's more fun to drive it.

Thanks for the replys. You were all right. After ten minutes with the motor off the car cranked, the check engine light wint off anf I drove twenty miles with no problem. The only remaining issue is how to reset the FOB.
This is the first problem I have ever had with this '98 and I over reacted.

Get a new battery! :smash: Your old one probably has at least one dead cell; they don't always take a charge when they have been completely drained.

Reset FOB is a piece of cake. It's in the manual, but if you turn on the key, and clear all notices on the DIC your ready. Press Options button until the DIC is clear, cycling through all the options. Then press reset (the bottom button) you should get FOB TRAINING. I think you press reset one more time and it says 1st FOB training, then says press LOCK and UNLOCK until the screen changes. It takes about 15 seconds to reprogram. You can do the second in the same sequence.
Look in your owners manual and follow step by step. If you can't find it, I'll dig out my manual and type it out for you.
