Default 4.10s for A4 too much?

Hello all,
I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and get to a top speed of 40mph on my way to work and back  I want to wake up my car some and have more fun around town and on the small straights, and the 2.73s just are not doing it for me. Since I never see about 50mph for any long period of time I was woundering if I could go with 4.10s for the extra umph! or should I just get some 3.73s?

Also alittle off topic but, I want to work on my exhaust system and the louder the better :D Whats the best system to go with <it does NOT have to be street legal :blueangel: >

Thanks for any advice

<edit> 98' Coupe A4... stock

I'd get the 3.73's which would perk it up quite a bit and still allow 80mph cruisin. B&B Prt's will liven it up too. :chevy

:iagree: That's what I have..besides your going to create a real traction problem with the 4:10's.... :yesnod:

Life is short and since you seem to be somewhat extreme in what your looking for i say go for the 4.10s as that will REALLY WAKE it up and it will still be 100% streetable but you will need to find someone to make a couple of changes to your pcm with ls1 edit to compensate for your new gearing, etc. I know several big HP heads cam guys who love their 4.10s in their A4s and they LOVE IT and one of them (Red98C5) has driven cross country with his 4.10s and he absolutely LOVED IT!!!!

ALso, if you want the most aggessive exhaust get the new SLP loudmouths which is essentially straight pipe with very aggressive american muscle car sound and i just saw the new exhaust tips on the slp today on a vette at my mechanics shop and they look GREAT and cost only $600.00. Live life to its fullest and GO FOR the 4.10s and most aggressive exhaust!!! :chevy :yesnod:

Thats the type of responce I was wishing for. To hell with little things like gas milage and traction, who needs them

Actually as long as the 4.10s do not have a stigma for taking you out of your power band too soon or breaking anything I am all for it. I am sure 3.73s would be enough gearing for me and more Ideal, but thats just the thing, I dont really want ideal, I want over the top. Thanks for all the help guys. Now to find a shop that can do it right :banghead:

I have 4.10 on my A4. It is very streetable, and I can pass by other cars lightening quick either on the street & on freeway. It is absolutely fun. And at the same speed 4.10 will give you louder sound on your exhaust. The only holdback is mpg. I only get about 14 to 15 on street & 18 to 19 on freeway. Maybe I am stepping on the gas too often.
