I tried a search and the damn search is down...
Today I was playing at a decent volume level and the driver side subwoofer just cut out. Then it just came back and then cut out again..
If I play it at a low volume it seems to hang on ok.. But as I increase it then it cuts out..
The mid/tweeter part is still functioning but the sub is dying... Where should I check first? What can it be...

Sounds like a bad speaker to me. especially if you are still getting highs through the speaker. Maybe the coils on the woofer are screwed. It is safe to say that it is not the head unit, if it was shorting, the whole channel would malfunction. Not just the lows. It could be a crossover as well, but it is built into the speaker.
My bet is that if you replace the speaker, the problem will go away.

Oh, so the SUB does not have it's own amp?? I assumed there were 2 amps.. One for the midrange/tweeter and another for the SUB

I dont know it may have its own amp. But, either way, the amp(s) are built into the speaker inclosure. So, if you replace the speaker, you are replacing the amp too.
