Default Question.. passing an OBDII emissions test

Anybody here familure with the newer emissions testing (OBDII)? In this type of testing they test your car with the engine off and just use a computer to communicate with the cars computer and they do not visibly check for cats. Will a C5 with no cats and O2 simms installed pass the test ?

Here in Illinois (near St Louis) I was tested last fall. They shut off the motor plug in the cable re start the car and let it idle for a minute or so, it down loaded the data it's looking for. The screen flashed PASSED and out popped a certificate. I'm good for another 3 years.

Easy and painless, no more dyno crap.

As long as there are no codes being signaled by your DIC you should pass. But some states have a visual inspection (I believe Calif does that) as well so if you don't have cats and your car is not stinking up the place you should be fine. But on the other hand if your car smells like "exhaust" you may get a visual, then youÂ’re screwed. WasnÂ’t worth the 5 extra HP for me and I didnÂ’t need to sound like Jeff Gordon.

Good luck

Tom

ya you should be okay. as long as you don't have any DTC codes. sometimes the ODBII test look for more than codes, but thats more likely in CA. if you fail, then time for you to contact me and I'll hook you up with my tuner.

I passed emissions in VA (dyno roller test) no cats, tailpipe sniffer.

There's also a set of tests that the PCM runs on several emissions related systems that have to have been accomplished and passed.

If you reset your PCM right before going to the smog test, the tests will be reset, and will not have been run (they require a certain number of drive cycles), so DO NOT RESET YOUR PCM RIGHT BEFORE A SMOG TEST!!

The scan check is checking for both codes, and the completion of those tests.

No cats and O2 simms should be just fine.
