Default Brake fluid reservoir leaking ?

Has anyone experienced this? I am constantly getting a film of brake fluid around the brake reservoir lip (mid way down the reservoir).

Any suggestions? I don't know if it is leaking or if it is forcing it out of the top somehow. I try to keep the fluid level at the max mark or a hair below. Could my master cylinder be going bad?? Should I just find a good mechanic....?

Do you set it at the max mark when cool or when warm?

When cool.

It had dropped close to the "min" mark when I added more. Again, while cool. Since I don't drive the car all of the time, I can't tell how quickly I'm losing it. Maybe 1/4 inch every month or two.

1/4 inch loss every two month indicates a leak to me anyway.

Please confirm there is no seepage/ leakage at the calipers when the line attaches. That's easy to do.

Then I'd check the entire brake line system.

Esle, one could try a new reservior cap with its rubber seal?

I set mine to the "min" mark when cool, just to give it lots of room to expand when hot and not go over the top. Why don't you try that for a while and see what happens.
