Default DIC Service Vehicle Soon

I have a stock 98 Coupe and it so far has been wonderful. Just broke through the 30,000 mile mark and the DIC now says "Service Vehicle Soon". All the fluids are at normal levels, new air filter, and all the temps/pressures are within specifications. Oil life is at 88%. Replaced the battery as the old one was giving out but no change. Saw the posting on how to read the DIC codes, only a few history code so I cleared those just in case. Also have a OBDII autoscanner and it also doesn't report any problems. The "Service Vehicle Soon" can come on at anytime when I am driving.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is this a conspiracy by GM to get me to bring the car into the dealership? Is there a magical secret reset button?

Thanks

No codes? How about making sure your gas cap clicks at least 3 times when you close it.

Yes. No codes at all. That is the strange part, the "Service Vehicle Soon" comes on but no indication what is causing it so I can't do anything. I am sure the dealer will have a similar problem and charge me an arm and leg for not much help.

You experts are my best bet!!!

Same thing happened to my 98 vert. Turned out to be the steering wheel position sensor. The dealer replaced at n/c so I cant tell you what it cost to repair . Hope this helps. :chevy

autoworker.....when you say the dealer replaced the sensor at no charge, do you mean the vehicle was still under warranty, or is there a recall or something.
I have the same problem on a 2000 coupe..and hope it will be covered by extended warranty

(Magredvet) I bought my vert used off a dealer and had a 60 day warranty. It took them 3 visits before they finally isolated it. The service manuals are sort of vague on what causes this code. I would clear all codes and when "service vehicle soon" appeared on the dic , it would throw a code.(I dont remember what the code was.) Good luck with yours. :chevy
