Default Exhaust Question

I am in the market for some exhaust and have a few questions.
What do you guys reccomend...?
Should I leave the stock cats in? I want headers for the HP and the mufflers for the sound. Will the cats restrict power? or much of it? And being that I am fairly mechanically inclined, is this install something I can do myself on a lift? Thanks a whole lot in advance!!! :chevy

DelMonteZ06,
I recommend a set of FLP's. They are long tube headers, come with high flow cats and an X pipe. They are a complete bolt on system with no cutting or welding, have had mine for about 2 years and have had ZERO problems. As far as the mufflers go, I like the CORSA indys. But just like belly buttons everyone has one and this is just my opinion. Surprised you have not had more replys.

The guys at FLP are very good to work with too.

Hi!

Exhaust is a fun mod for sure, changes the whole attitude of the car. I do not have headers YET -but from what i have read, seen, and heard the FLP long tubes are the way to go. As for CATs - it is not worth going without CATs - the stocks flow pretty good, and of course the high flows flow even better.

As for after the CATs I LOVE my GHL 4 inchers... Wow what a great sound

Have fun!!

EDITED**
Just noticed on this thread that NAte at extreme is running a Group Purchase on the GHL's! Looks like it is good till Sat!

I have a Stainless Works setup feeding a set of Corsa Indy's with Daytona Tips. The Stainless Works setup is: 1 3/4" primaries feeding a 3" collector. They feed into Random Technology 3" high flow cats that feeds a Stainless Works 3" XPipe. That feeds my Corsa exhaust. The headers/midsection really woke the car up and improved the sound of the Corsa's. I guess the 3" pipes made the sound deeper while the RT cats made it a little louder :D At cruise there is almost no resonance in the car, I can even listen to the radio and hear bass notes, but a WOT the car sounds, at least to me :D , like a Corvette should. The Daytona tips are kind of unique so they look great too. The last thing I like about my headers/midsection is that they are made from stainless steel so they will never rust and come with a lifetime guarantee, and they were pretty easy to install, they are a true bolt on system. Good luck!

FLP's for headers and maybe B&B Bullets for exhaust. Keep the cats - they flow pretty well. Or, go to a higher flow cat. You need to keep them for emissions compliance.

Breathless has a nice header....as far as exhaust goes check out the Bassani system. I run their system on both of my Vetts and have been really happy with them. When you do it, make sure you install their X-pipe too. The Bassani's will give you a pleasant growl at idle and roar like a lion at WOT. They have a nice deep tone, flows well and makes good power...gives the Vett the sound it should have had all along. You won't have to worry about that "outboard motor" sound with Bassani. Can't say enough good things about the Bassani systems or the guys out at the shop. Look up their web site at http://www.bassani.com. :hurray:

It seems to be a header battle going on now so wait until folks start to post their HP gains. As far as exhaust goes... I just installed the "NEW" SLP Loudmouths and couldn't be happier(except for my neighbors and wife) :D I installed them in my garage. Go to some of your local shows and just listen to all the different exhaust tones that have the tone you are looking for. Here is a pic of the new SLP's
