Default Squeeking belts, HELP!!!!

Please help. It sounds like a flock of seagulls are under my hood. My belt is squeaking and it is driving me crazy, I think I am going to pull my hair out. I replaced the tensioner, and installed a new belt, but it is still there. It was a lot worse before I started working on it, but it is still squeaking. What else can I do? I see that there are two more idler pulleys (one on the AC belt and one on the alt belt). The sound seams to be coming form the right side of the car. Can I get replacement pulleys at a local parts store vs dealer?

There are two tensioners (spring loaded).
Also I beleive there are two that are not spring loaded.
So four total.

Lastly is an upgraded alternater (has a upgrade clutch in it I recall)

Perhaps spraying some silicon on the tensioners can help you isolate which one is.

Also verify that everything is in alignment and the belt isn't going a little sideways. Make sure the pully tracks, crank pully tracks etc are extremely clean.

Also, Katech (perhaps) sells a custom made tensioner of greater quality. Also try the old mechanic trick of bar soap on the belt as a last resort.

I know that squeak and I hate that squeak also.

Thanks...

Does someone have a diagram showing all these parts and part#'s. Since my car is my daily driver and has a few miles it couldn't hurt to replace them and have new parts on the car.

what year is the car? did you replace both belts? if not, get gatorback belts from autozone. ask other forum members, these belts stop the squeak. if possible, take both belts off and turn all the pulleys, do they squeak??

Thanks... It's a 98. I think I'll try that this weekend. I'll take both belts off and check each pully and maybe I can find the problem one.

My 98 is doing the same thing. Or it is worse since I sprayed some stop squeak belt spray on it.

geoc....instead of a belt lubricant.

Just take a bar of hand soap (Ivory/ Dove other) and rub it on the V of the belt.

I am dating myself with that one uh? They do still make bar soap; not all soap come in a dispensor bottle now days?

I have a 02 Z06. The belt started squeekin so I looked under the hood, one whole rib had come off the belt and ate up the hood liner. Cause of the problem was the harmonic balencer seperating!!!! Just thought I'd throw that in.

I too have had this problem on my 98 with 65k... turns out the belts were glazed over. I know you changed the main serp but did you change the AC one too?
