Same question. I want to keep the inteior sound levels to a minimum and am curious how much louder it would get if I run the long tubes through the stock
cats and exhaust. Currently. my wife likes to take road trips in the Vette. Don't want that to change.
There is a video in my signature of the noise level. I have the LG Pro off road headers and the LG cam only package.
When I put on the headers with the stock cam, at idle the car is only slighly louder than stock. Once you get on it though it wakes up to a nice and healthy sound without being too annoying - this is with the stock titanium catback.
I put the KOOKS long tubes on mine with the stock Z06 exhaust and you cannot hear ANY difference with the windows up UNTIL you get on it and then only passed 3000 RPM or so, but it never gets lound at all. I have NO cats and the car still sounds VERY VERY quiet with the Z06 exhaust. M friend with a 03 cobra was Blown away at how quiet my car is with long tubes, no cats
Like jmX said, it really comes down to a personal preference. For many the offroads + stingers are a little too much, but I know plenty of happy customers who love that setup. The cats will help quite it down some, and the 3" metal matrix cats we use are top of the line and don't rob you of much power (5-10 max.)
I just did the install on my '03 m6 Coupe.
I did the LGM w/o Cats through GHL 6" Cans (Bullets I think)
I take long trips w the wife also. NO problem, she rode and approved no annoying sounds, but if you WOT then it is loud behind you ( the car behind you )
I was going to order the RC 3" BUT THENwas comfortable with my setup.
Like others said under 3K your fine.
Idles good, not loud!
The 3" Mid Sec X-pipe Quiets them down alot until the exhuast reaches your muffler cans.
I would not use them with smaller mufflers than the Big GHL's or w/o mufflers though.
Be ready for a PITA install, but LT are worth it.
If your doing the install, the factory manifold are the biggest pain to remove.
Both manifolds remove up.
Drivers LT gooes in from bottom
Pass goes in from top.
Remove starter completely,ValveCovers, and Plugs.
Estimate 4-5 hours min. w/ air tools and a lift for sure!
Lots of timeis lost whwen aligning and tightening stuff.
remember to not connect the bottom mts until all upper bolt are almost tight!
Good luck!
Any question just IM me I'll give you the real HO.

Thanks for the info...........i already ordered them without cats..........now im thinking i can get for 300 bucks less the whole dynatech longtubes with cats. I have a tuner down here who wants to setup the line with dynatech so would be selling them to me for his cost. Opinions?
I have stock cat-back and absolutely love the sound. Not even near to loud. When I got done with the full system my car went from the usual sound to more of a higher pitched exotic sound! Love it.
NEVER EVER get cats if you don't have to! Nothing like the extra power and nice smell of a car making lots of horsepower.
go with the cats.........could go on a road trip to another state, and get your car impounded on the spot. cheeper to buy them first! as long as you use a big pipe behind them, they don't hurt performance. some complants about the smell with no cats?

I have an 02 Z06 with LGM longtubes and the high flow cats, with the stock Ti exhaust. It's very quiet at idle and cruising speeds. There is never any droning or resonation at any rpms. As up get up around 3K rpms or more you can start to tell the difference, and at WOT it sounds pretty wicked, but definitely not too loud. In fact I'm considering switching out the stock Ti to the GHL Bullet with 6" muffler to get a little deeper louder exhaust note without the resonation. There is actually less valvetrain noise than I would have expected with the thin design of the tubes. If you're worried about it being too lound or obnoxious, don't be. I hate loud, blatty, exhaust, and the LGM's won't do that to you. Also, I'd recommend getting the hi flow cats so you don't have to deal with the smell, extra noise, etc. Also, 21st Century Musclecars told they they've dynoed a loss of only 2-3 rwhp with the hi flow cats.

HAHA, thats the least of your worries. Man you must be afraid of walking across the street also.
Yes, thats what i've done. LG's Longtubes no cat in X pipe and stock Z06 cat-back. Sounds great. Not even close to loud. Why give up 5-10 rwhp when you don't even need them.
Not to even mention the weight savings without cats. I dropped a total of 27lbs off my car when I did the full exhaust! My car is down to an even 3,000 lbs with an 1/8 tank of gas.
I wanted to go catless,, but I wanted the car to be legal just in case Indiana got visual inspections or smog tests,,might as well be nice to the air also....I feel if its a race car,, go cat less,, real race cars dont get much street use,, those who race their street car,,, do what you want....it does seem a shame to loose 2-5 hp for 400 bucks,,,(cost of random tech cats)....first time I can say I paid to lose hp.lol.... :banghead:
Actually, I didn't pay to loose horsepower. I paid to gain some quietness, to keep the air clean, and not have to smell the sooty gas smell, and to keep the soot off the back of my car. To some people it's not worth it, but for me it was.
