After a bit of research and one persons remote having issues, it appears that certain OLDER Homelink remotes may NOT work properly with the very newest intellicode/rolling code garage doors.
How do we tell? Well, at this point, its kinda an inexact science. Apparently the Homelink remotes come in two flavors:
1) An older style with an plain oval shaped LED.
OR
2) A newer style with a triangle LED that has the Homelink symbol around the LED.
If your garage door is older, uses a remote with switches to set the code then you may use either sort of remote. If your garage/gate opener is newer, you may have to use a newer style remote.
Again this is just my inexact research. If someone wants to chime in, please do!
Re: WARNING! Potential Issues With Homelink Remotes! (GhoSSt)
It's been a few months since I installed mine, so I don't remember the exact details, but the switchover to the rolling code remotes was some time in the '96 or '97 model year cars. If you get one from a '97 or newer car then it will support the rolling codes.
If you aren't sure what you need then look at your garage unit. If you have a 'learn' button with an LED next to it then you need the rolling code remote.
