Default Paging Lou G

Hey Lou;

Sorry to bug you. Per our conversation last week, I'm awaiting your quote and a transport plan. Give me a buzz, an email, something; I'd like to get going with this (or are Tx only guys welcome).

:iagree: You going solid roller or something--I don't see much room for improvement--I suppose a new heads and cam setup could work for a few more ponies-

Hi Bill;

Actually, we're going with a new LG cam, the TPIS Intake and TB, a 3" center section (I've got the original LG hand built custom setup) and an overall tweak and tune. Aim is to see if we can get around 550 rwhp and tq. Also need to solve a few drivability issues with tuning. Lou and his gang were very helpful in getting the first version of this project together and I look forward to putting a bit of updated polish to it. I drive the car around town fairly often, and am an ex sportscar racer rather than a dragster so am planning to continue with a hydraulic cam rather than a solid roller. Seeing what Randy Goss has gotten done, not to mention what the high output stock displacement engines are putting out, I'm hoping for another 50 horses or so in a profoundly drivable though still crazy street car.

Hey pal; thanks!! The plan is to get the car to LG as soon as the shipper gets organized. Lou and I spoke a week or so ago and planned out a cam, manifold and TB swap, as well as a general look over for needed upgrades(springs, etc.). All to be followed by a thorough tuning.

When you think about it making more power at this level, for a street car, is just nuts. On the other hand, as my old friend Reeves Callaway said: "boost (or in our case raw HP) is addictive!!"

Look forward to working with you Jeremy.

Eric

Hi Eric--funny we both have a 436 in a 2000 coupe, both 57 and both looking for 550rwhp--I am also going in for some fine tuning and hopefully the FAST with a 90mm will put me close--I am out of the idea of drag racing as well and like to hustle around on the street and its a lot of fun seeing how much we can get out of an NA--its getting pretty bad when I have to consider downsizing my motor to get more HP :lol: do you know which cam ARE put in your car now--mine is the 236/242-605/612-114--I will be extremely interested in seeing what another cam will do for your numbers--I should think that finding an intake setup that would let them breath would put another 50 on the board just from the stand point of bringing to the surface what is already there--does Lou feel pretty comfortable with being able to get these numbers, that would make you the most powerful NA c5 on earth until the current war turns to the strokers and believe that is next and I can't wait to see what the guys start coming up with, if they can get 500 out of a 346 then you would think you could get another 50 out of another 90ci---good luck and look forward to your post--

Hi Bill;

Thanks for the post. My current cam is a 244/244 .610 114. Lou feels we can achieve or get close to my goal with a current generation cam (eg ramp rates, profiles, etc.) as well as with the manifold and 90mmTB. Obviously, we'll see.

I have a couple other issues I want to resolve. I've a bit of the oil consumption issue that the ARE 436's are prone to. I had thought to send the car to Wade to resolve this, but have decided the uncertainties there were too daunting. Lou has been a prince to deal with over the past year+ and he and I have decided to look the engine over planning to fix anything that made rational sense (and to live with those things that couldn't be handled in a cost effective manner). I've also got some drivability gremlins (hot idle, idle flare, etc.) that I want thoroughly sorted out. If I were bulding a outright race car I might tolerate them but I don't want to do that for a street going car.

Let's keep in touch (either in this thread or email). I'll be glad to let everyone know how this goes.

Jeeeeze Doc-who dyno'd your car, I can't believe how much you got from the 436 with that older cam etc, I don't think Lou will have a prob getting you to 550rw with one of his new cams and the new intake and even an exhaust upgrade you should be there with no prob at all, I hope I can come close to your numbers now in my current state. You may want to take a look at my Exedy dual clutch with the chrome moly/billet lightweight flywheel you are probably going to need it for gods sake--I would be interested in hearing more about what to expect from the ARE bottom end in oil consumption--I don't know how much bigger I could possibly go on cam size, but the ramp speed etc would be something I will be watching closely on your car, I am always excited to see someone do research for me with their money :lol:at our age when he gets through with your car you may want to consult a good heart specialist :lol:

Hello again Bill;

I'm already using the Fidanza aluminum wheel, so doubt I need to change that. The Cartek clutch/master/slave package that they built for me a year or so ago works fine, though I'll revisit the issue when it wears out.

I am looking forward to the new cam, intake and TB and am DELIGHTED to be the point of the spear for all who follow behind (says he with a grin).

The dyno numbers come from two attempts a tuning: first at Lou's last year (498 tq and 85hp) and the second here at a friends shop (HESCO--who build GT1 petit LeMans cars, NASCAR engines and so forth). I actually think we need to revisit the whole setup; with street gas I get a little transitional ping, occasionally bad manners at idle, and so forth. While I'm not looking for "docile (which is of course not possible with these sorts of packages) I do want to maintain a level of reliability and safety. With that in mind, I'll not try to get a "bragging rights" dyno but rather one that maximizes the car for the real world (as I define it).

As to heart docs--I try to avoid needing my own services as much as possible :D

I heard that, if I knew as much about hearts as you I would be so paranoid everytime I felt a twinge I wouldn't be able to relax--I expect something in the 485rw range as is but my 390s (from experience) take 15rw so I don't know what it will show, after the fine tuning we will see, then I hope to have the 90mm setup to tune in, like you I just want the potential out of my investment and have no intention of setting the world on fire with numbers, clearly we already have way more hp than is really usable on these cars--
