Default ***HELP!!!! 97 w/POSSIBLE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PROBLEM****

Has anyone experience any transmission problems? I have a 97 that has been slipping on 3rd gear, at least that what it seems to be. I was driving the damn thing last week when all of a sudden the car starts to jerk while driving down the street. It seems to shift fine in 1st & 2nd gear, then it starts to jerk in 3rd gear and it never makes it to 4th gear....should I be highly concerned?

Sounds like you are loosing the 3/4 clutch pack.. when it starts to go it will slip and grip causing a shudder.. or a kinda jerking motion.. the 3/4 clutch pack is a common failure on the 4L60E. Failed on my C4 and I rebuild it with an upgraded 3/4 pack... most likely time for a rebuild..

Well I did it all myself, So it was just the cost of parts.. Which let's see I'll give you a quick run down of what I replaced and the cost..

Racing overhaul kit, with red eagle frictions, and kolene steels
200$
Kevlar Racing Band 2/4
30$
Trans Filter
6$

Now I also replaced all the electronics which you don't need to unless there is a problem but I am **** like that..

Master Solenoid Kit (all shift soleniods, pressure solenoid, tcc solenoid)
100$
Manifold Pressure Switch (also contains the temp sender in same unit)
40$

I also added a Trans Go shift kit
80$

There were a few other things I changed that didn't need to be.. such as the 2 sprag (one way clutch) assemblies..

So you could spend 240$ on parts.. then 140$ for electronics and if you want a shift kit 80$ so total would be close to 500$ in parts for a good perf. build.. not including torq converter, which could be 200-800 bucks... 200 for a cheap reman and 800$ for a vigilante high stall converter..

I myself probably spent 1350$ thats includeing my 800$ vigilante converter.. and my trans shifts pretty kick AXX...

Rick,

Thanks for the info, unfortunely I don't have the knowledge to rebuild, so I'm looking for someone to rebuild for me. I just got a quote from Armstrong Transmission Shop and this guy wants $2 grand. What do u think about that price? Do you know of any good shops in Dallas for this type of rebuild?

No Problem, if your ever in IL and need anything done please feel free to contact me..

2$ Grand sounds about right for a stock 4l60E rebuild. As for a shop in texas, that I'm not sure about I would make a post in the regional section for a reccomendation.
