Gonna do a heads(ls6) and Comp cam(224) package and wondering how streetable is it gonna be at 440-460 hp? I have all the bolt ons leading up to this...I do not plan on doing the pulley/low temp stat.....have 3.90s and runflats.....is thing gonna be undriveable haha??? I plan on getting F1 Supercar tires or D3's....I am not planning on track usage since I want to buy a house and not C5 repairs lol I thought about bigger tires but like my magnesiums and the "sleeper" look...
I am expecting to have a reliable C5 that runs like a motha...will this be too much power for the street? Should I do a cam only(390 hp) and call it a day(since not gonna drag it at the track)??
You will definitely need tires much better than stock to even have a chance of hooking on the street, and of course, consider what kind of driving will you do on the street with this much HP. As long as you keep your foot from being planted in the gas, any good tire besides the RFs should be OK. It is when you plant your foot that the traction is non-existent. I guess you could run DR’s on the street, but I would imagine you would want better side wall performance than what those would give.
A good cam only setup should be plenty if you are not trying to keep up with the Jones at the track. Many guys on here even with mild cams have pretty good HP/TQ numbers and can pretty much blow away most cars on the street.
H&C C5's are very streetable as long as you don't go crazy w/ the cam. I drive my Cartek H&C car on the street w/ no problem. As far as traction is considered, it depends on the TPS %/road surface/tire selection/weather and temp of the pavement.
My car idles and runs like stock till I get into the "go pedal." :D
As already stated, it's not going to matter what brand or model street tire you buy, none are going to provide any traction whatsoever. If you want traction for launching, you're going to need drag radials at the very least.
I am thinking it wont be as bad as the zo6 cars with h/c...meaning my coupe is heavier....my corsa exhaust adds weight as does the dynomatting....and since I am not utilizing a pulley and low temp therm I am hoping it will be more manageable on the street than an all out light as can be racer...
Am I making a mistake by not doing the pulley/low temp stat??? I have read posts that the low temp stat causes cylinder wall scoring since the block is not as hot as it is meant to run at.....
And I figure I may have issues with pulley when going to dealer for service since that will be easily recognizable/alternator not spinning enough to excite the internal stator as intended(IE battery problems)....any input on this guys?
Go for it! :yesnod: You'll enjoy it...but don't expect a H/C car to act like a sleeper, unless you've have a very mild cam and muffled exhaust.

:iagree:
Anykind of street tire will be useless when you go WOT as mentioned above, plan on running at least DRs if you want traction. The 224/224 is very good cam with great street manners, but it is mild by todays standards. I don't think you will see anything like 440-460 RWHP with a mild cam like the 224/224, 400 to 420 RWHP would be more realistic.
I am curious what am H/C package does to gas mileage. I mean does it drop to like 7/14 or is more like 14/22. I realize most people who get a package are not concerned with gas mileage, but I was curious.
i have ported ls6 heads and the 224, .563 114cl, pulley
sounds stock at idle, with the 3.90 gears it pulls fine from idle,
i only put 40 mi. on it so far but it was very drivable,
i haven't had any tuning yet the roads are snow/salt
covered here.
tuning has a lot to do with final street characteristics...in cold weather initial warm-up can expect some surging and bucking...but overall with a decent tune on a 224 should be very streetable.
my car started fine, idles smooth. I did a relearn and the 30 mile ride
for the computer to adjust. it idles good, no surging or cruise effect
850 idle. i just need some good weather to go and get it tuned.
note that i go not have headers
A 224 cam with good heads is very streetable, no idle problems with a good tune. A friend copied my setup (see sig) EXCEPT he went with 224/224 .561/.561 114 lsa cam. Very nice!
We are running 3.73 gears and street traction is an issue, with 3.90's...good luck! We have found the BFG G-Force KD's better than the Goodyear supercar tires from the Z06, and all are WORLDS better than the runcraps. IMHO get the 160 stat, and tune with the fans set to run cooler, it's worth HP. No you won't score the cylinder walls because of it. While the heads are off, do the underdrive pulleys, it's worth 10 rwhp, and wont cause any charging or overheating problems.
When I was H&C only I was getting 18-19 around town, 29+ on the open road. THat was about a 1-2 MPH drop from "stock." However, most of us who have had a H&C done (or in my case now a stroker as well) tend to get on the happy pedal a little more often, and wht physics suggest more air and fuel = less MPG. I get less than 10 MPG at the track, for example :) So it is more about your driving. I still get 17-18 around town and 27-28 on the open road with my car as she sits, which IMO is great!

I have a Futral 228/230 112LSA cam and TEA stg2 5.3 heads. This weekend I managed 32mpg going down to Orlando from Atlanta and 29.5 on the way back. The package is very streetable.
If you have it tuned you won't have any problems at all with 224 in an M6 car. You probably won't make 440/460 with it either - I would guess 420rw with heads or 385rw cam only. My opinion would be not to mess with the t-stat - what is a couple hp going to mean to you, since you don't track the car? Good luck and enjoy.
