I have a Heads/cam package from MMS that got installed about 1 year ago. About 3 months ago i broke a spring and had Andy fix it. No problems until coming home last night, i think it happened again! :mad
I know it's not a difficult job but is there a do it yourself write up someone can show me?
And finally, what is the reason why the springs keep breaking? Does it have to do with a bad tune or simply a bad job on the whole heads/cam install?
Your spring problem could be related to either an incorrect installed hieght, coil bind, too much cam for the springs, over-revving or a radical cam profile. I don't know the lobe profile of the TR224, but i wouldn't think this is the case. Do you know the part number for the springs? What does Thunder recommend for the 224? If you spend a lot of time at higher RPM's and the spring is on the soft side (meaning there are higher rate springs also compatable with this cam) then you might need to look at higher rate springs or a rev kit. Chris.
PS> I seem to remember something about a bad batch of Comp 918's awhile back.
At home spring replacement can be done if you have the tools. You can even leave the head on the car and boost the cylinder with air while you install the new spring. We did a car at my place once.. it took 2 hours or so to do all 8 of them. If you cant do it yourself, you might as well take it to a shop and let them do it.
