First I like the clutch...i have taken car to 1/8th strip twice after Spec 3 install, clutch feels great but so far launches on BFG 18 inch dr have been consistently 1.9s...i have tried variable rpms and dumping or slipping clutch and still best 60ft is 1.9....prior to clutch best 60ft were 1.7s with same BFGs. Lots of advice, including just go to ET Street and launch at 6000rpm....does anyone have Spec3 with DR getting 1.7 60fts??? if so How? thanks for any advice....
I had 315 Nitto Drags and 315 BFG drags on ZR1 rims and the best I could get was 1.80's. When I purchased my CCW drag rims(like the ones below), my first run was a 1.60. Huge difference in traction. There are several guys here running 1.4's with the setup below.
If you are using the aluminum flywheel, you lose a ton of engine inertia and you really need to bring the rpm's up to launch. On Nitto's and 3k launch, the car almost stalled. At 4k, it launched a little better, haven't been able to get a good high rpm launch in since the track closed.
My first pass on dr's smoked my stock clutch. I dumped the clutch at 4000 and floored it at the same time. the rpm's jumped to 6000 and stayed there. stayed there on the 2-3 shift. score: dr's-1...stock clutch-0. I had a spec stage 3 ceramic installed that week. next weekend at the track....same launch as previous week...tires just spin forever with a 4k dump(2.3x 60ft). reduced launch rpm to 3500....big time bog(2.1x 60ft). well it was time for et streets now. did I neglect to mention I was making 500 at the wheels? anyway I bought a ccw drag set-up. dropped the clutch at 4500 on the first pass with et streets at 15psi. it spun and I pedaled it(1.85 60ft). needless to say that after spending $2100 on the ccw's, I was a little upset. the next pass, I dropped the tires to 12psi. launched it at 4500 and let it eat. drove through the tirespin and got a 1.63 60ft....the moral, you don't want to dead hook a manual trans car. a little tirespin will make the car quicker.
C5-Vert...thanks, what did you put on the wheels (ET street?) and how do you launch, rpm?, dump clutch?, slip clutch? etc.
I did not use any VHT on my runs. I did not side step the clutch but I did release about as fast as my foot would let me at a 4500 - 5000 rpm. I do have a fidanza aluminum flywheel but the difference is I also have a larger cubic inch motor which provides me more bottom end torque helping offset the aluminum flywheel. I can't speak for stock cube motors launching with aluminum flywheels.
SR71...i varied my launch from 3500 to 4000rpm with similar result (bog to spin)...also thinking of going to a "line-lock" to help get a better standing burn....hoping for more comments, keep-em coming.
