Need ATI Super Dampner installation instructions
I had the dampner installed by a reputable mechanic at a local Chevrolet dealership. The mechanic did not return the installation instructions to me. Some time later, I made the connection that only under hard panic braking I experience a harsh metallic grinding. From my visual inspection, it appears the regular hex bolt heads the mechanic used to attach the dampner to the hub may be contacting the power steering rack. I suspect these bolts were not supposed to be used in the installation. Instead the supplied allen/torx head bolts should have been used in the proper countersunk holes.
Can anyone send/fax me a copy of the installation instructions?
Thanks in advance.

But I will quote step 6.
A."Align the indent holes."
B."Start three (3) ferry cap bolts in the front of the damper in the the three holes that are not countersunk. DO NOT PULL DOWN TIGHT ON THE DAMPER!
C. Start the six (6) countersunk flathead screws in the remaining six holes. Use Loctite 242 on these six screws. Draw the damper assembly onto the hub evenly. Torque the six screws to 16 ft/lbs.
D. Torque the ferry cap screws to 30 ft/lbs THEY MUST BE INSTALLED AND TORQUED EVEN IF NO PULLEYS ARE USED!"
So the answer to your question is yes there should be 3 hex head bolts on the front of the damper, now if your's are hitting your steering rack I would suspect either the crank bolt is loosened or the 3 hex bolts are loose.
:cry
Under normal conditions there should be about 1/2" clearance between the bolts and the rack!
If you have any more question I will be happy to help. :)
The heads of the ferry cap bolts are a bit chewed up, but this could well be from the installation. It is very TIGHT in there and difficult to see the back of the steering rack.
Of course, I was impatient and had a torque converter installed at the same time. The metallic clanking/grinding could be clearance issue with torque tube in the tunnel. This only occurs when I'm on the brakes hard enough to engage ABS and the nose of the car is diving while the rear is really lifting.
Any chance you could scan/fax/email the instructions to me? I'm sure this will be an issue if/when I ever need to remove the unit.
Thanks again.
