Default General LT header install question

For those that have done it, is it really necessary to remove the valve covers to get the LT's in from the top? Does it just make it easier? I would assume new valve cover gaskets are required?

Yes you need to remove them, it doesnt look like it would make that much difference but it gives you just enough room to fit the LT's in. The gasket is reusable so no worries
Good luck with the install

I installed the LT long tubes at christmas. Very straight forward, headers were installed from below. No need to remove valve covers but removing the coil packs sure helps, the dip stick needs to be removed, also get wiring sorted out and zip tied out of the way. May need to remove alt. to get stock header out the top, I didn't have too. I highly recommend a tune be performed as my 02 A4 ran very rich and left a brown residue on the rear fasia. Picked up 30 hp and 40 ft/lbs torque afterwards. Mine was catless!

yes to me it was easier & its really no big deal to take off the valve covers i kinda like the way gm has put together these valve covers no more blue silicone also the way the bolts stay in after u loose them thats a brillant idea to bad they didnt do that 20 yrs ago lol
