Default After heads cam install

I'm thinking about doing my own heads / cam install and have a tuning question. Will the car run without being tuned? I get the impression that it will run but not well.
Are there any negative about driving for a couple hours like this until you can get somewhere that can tune it?
Should the shop I'm buying the heads/cam package from be able to program my ecu with a basic tune that will help me get to their shop where the final tune will be done?
Thanks.

How big of cam are you going with? 2c5only21's swap had the TR224 and he drove it about 3hrs before having it tuned (1hr for fun, and 2hrs to the tuner) and had no problems. Chris.

It will idle for a little and depending on how big your cam is the pcm will re-relearn the airflow so its drivable.... But it will need an LS1 Edit to run "race-ready"

You will be fine as long as you don't go too big with the cam. It will be driveable, but you should get it tuned for the best performance. Mine ran fine with a TR224 cam in it after H/C install until I burned through two of the plug wires and it started misfiring. I would recommend using stock wires with stock heat shields to avoid this problem.

Also, I would recommend buying the tool to reinstall the pulley instead of using the crank bolt to pull it back on. I had trouble getting it tight enough using the bold method and thought I stripped the crank.
