Has anyone experienced lower engine temps using a different brand or viscosity oil? I've read where someone using Mobil 1 0w-30 had his engine temperature reduced by 10 degrees in his C5. Redline has the lowest coefficient of friction available due to it's polyolester base stock but I can't see PAO oils like Mobil 1 or Amsoil having this kind of effect. :)
There are so many variables that could affect engine temp from one day to the next that would make this kind of comparison very difficult. Remember, the stock thermostat tries to keep the coolant at around 194, but if you stop for a red light, the coolant temp will go up surprisingly fast as no air is passing thru the radiator until the fans come on at around 215 degrees (if I remember right). I've tried Redline in the engine and found no noticable difference from my usual Mobil 1, so after 7K miles went back to Mobil 1. I am an rabid supporter of Red Line for the tranny and the rear, but Mobil 1 is as good as anything out there for the engine.

:iagree: When I drive on the freeway, my car is always at 194-198 degrees, regardless of the weather. The thermostat and cooling fan settings are gonna determine the operating temperature of the motor. If the oil reduces the friction enough to make a difference, it would just increase the time it takes for the temp to get up to operating temp, and then it would lengthen the cycle time of the opening and shutting of the thermostat.
