Anyone else have this issue? The car revs too much around town.
I thought the rule of thumb was 3500 stall max for the street, and 3000 before driving was affected. Precision Industries has a FAQ that states that up to 3000 does not affect normal driving. http://www.converter.com/q8.htm
I'm happy with my 2600 stall.. I've heard 2800 is pushing it for street use.. Also could be a matter of taste too.. Something to note.. when going with a high stall.. the higher the stall the more heat build up.. I STRONGLY reccomend a trans cooler any time you run a higher stall converter..

Which rear end gears do you have? There may also be something wrong with your converter. My 3500 stall was fine around town, but my 4000 feels a little loose, not like my buddie's wrecker or flatbed though. :D
Got a 3000 stall Extreme 9/11 lockup behind a built 200r4 in my 11 sec regal, one time I got yelled at because some mom thought my 11 sec POS was floored when I was slowly accerating past their kid's or something when I'm barely moving at 5 mph and maybe 2500-2800 rpm... other than that is runs awesome on the street. who cares if it revs up a little. let em know you're running a loose converter...should sound cooler with the ls1 vs. a 3.8 sfi turbo v6...
I talked to Mitch at FLP, he suggested a few hundred miles and computer tuning (change from 1/2 sec to 0 sec shift delay over 250ft/lb).
Between a 2600 and 2800 stall makes that much difference in driveability? That's good to know that 2800 is another rule of thumb, a bit late for me though. It's a bee-aatch to swap out.
The car has a 3.15 rear, the thing I notice most is that in low rpms the gas pedal is more connected to the tach than the speedo. It became 'soft' around town when the forged motor dropped the CR to 8.7, now it's even less responsive.
The car has a blower, the heads and cam made it much louder, I swapped my GHLs for Z06 mufflers already to drop the volume a bit. Now when I drive normally, every econocar and minivan think we're racing and they're winning.

you must be running 2.73's or 3.15's... get you some 3.42's or 3.73's and it will take up all the slack...my st3500 yank and 3.42's are as tight as a 50year old virgin, i like mine....

Re: 3000 stall too much for me (MC TORCH RED)
Stall converter looseness and streetable is 100% a subjective thing. My hard hitting Yank Prothruster 4000 stall with my 3.73s is 100% streetable for me. You will get use to it after drivng a few hundred miles and it will seem like stock to you again and you probably will want more stall in the future if your into drag racing, etc.! :chevy

When I had my Vigilante 3500 and 3.15 gears, under normal acceleration around town, I did not notice any difference AFTER I got past the "tromp it to the floor, I got a new TC" newness of the mod.
Now, around town with my PT4000 and 3.90s, it is noticeable, but like MTI427 has said, once you are used to it, it is no big deal.
The down side is your rear tire wear! They will suffer, as your wallet will if you punch the accelerator too much.
But I like the big stall and gears. Would not go back even if I did not drag race the car.
A 3000 stall should not be that bad, it's not going to feel like stock but it's not what I'd call 'loose' either, although the Vigilantes (Precision Industries) do tend to stall higher than they're rated at so you might actually be closer to the 3400 range (still shouldn't be horrible on the street though).
It takes getting used to and yes, a gear upgrade (3.42 or 3.73) would help.
I wonder what your STR is and how it affects street 'feel'?

:lolg: My 3.73s and yank SS3600 are definately looser than stock, but you get used to it. The payoff is when you press the go pedal. Looseness is a subjective thing. What some may describe as tight may not be acceptable to you. See if you can drive a few different setups at local vette club before you start swapping out TCs. Will save you a lot of cash and aggravation that way.
